Parent’s Information Day June 2010

On June 9th we held an Information day for parents.  We invited lots of local organisations that offer free services for children and families.  Lots of parents said the information they heard was useful and some will be using the services they have found out about in the future.  There was also a stall to report to parents on attendance for Nursery and Reception children.  Mrs. Atkinson explained how attendance is monitored and what incentives are available to children who attend regularly.  Some children received prizes, certificate and medals.  Look out for us in the South Manchester Reporter on Thursday 17th June! Meanwhile here’s some snaps of the interesting and  fun  things that went on.

May 2010

We have been visiting the Manchester City Art Gallery.

We took lots of our Mums and some dads with us too!

We are thinking of making our own Gallery collections in the Nursery.

APRIL 2010

CATERPILLARS

Spring has arrived in the Nursery. Over the next few weeks we will be looking after our caterpillars that arrived today. Hopefully they’ll all make it into butterflies.

PLANTING

We’ve been planting vegetable seeds and sunflowers.  We can remember how we harvested carrots and potatoes  in October and made vegetable stew now we are starting all over again.

ART GALLERY VISITS

We are also visiting the Art Gallery this half term. Blue Group visited today. Lots of parents came with us on the bus.  Tomorrow it’s Red Group’s turn and the other groups are visiting in the next few weeks. Watch out for pictures soon!

PARENT AND TODDLER SESSIONS

We are starting PARENT AND TODDLER sessions on Tuesday mornings, so come along with your toddler to sing some songs in Nursery. This is a great way to help your child get to know the Nursery setting and staff so they will be more confident to start school.

PEPL BAGS

We  are running our PEPL bag scheme this term. Children have the opportunity to take home a different bag every week for 6 weeks. The bags contain  rhymes, toys and ideas to help you engage with your child in activities that will help them with their reading and writing. Blue and Red Group have really enjoyed their bags. There will be a meeting for the parents of other groups to explain the scheme in more detail soon.

WRITING IN FOUNDATION STAGE

Last term we held two meetings to share with parents information about how we teach writing in the Foundation stage and especially the Nursery. Parents said they found the information very useful and informative. Here are a few pictures of some of our boys mark making!

November

Well, we’re back for a new half term and many children are well settled in and staying all day in the Nursery but some are still very newwe have just admitted the last 5 children so we now have a total of 90 children all exploring and finding out fantastic things in our stimulating and vibrant environment.

Here you are, as promised, a few more pictures to show what the children have been up to in Nursery.

October

The leaves are turning brown and gold and falling from the trees. The weather is getting colder and the nights are drawing in. The world is shutting down for the long winter ahead but in a not so small corner of Birchfields Primary School, some very young, but very brave children are beginning a new life.

Tentativily they entered into the unfamilar room filled with unfamiliar people and strange but interesting toys. Wide-eyed they wandered past the paint and glue covered tables and slowly but surely they BEGAN TO PLAY!

They made friends, they leapt around, they played on noisy instruments, they climbed and danced, ate fruit, listened to stories and sang songs.

THEY WERE THE NEW NURSERY CHILDREN!!!!

STEW

Harvest

The Harvest

Mrs. Day and the Nursery staff waved a tearful “Goodbye” to the Nursery children as they moved up to reception. But before they went they harvested the vegetables which had been planted in the summer and made a hearty, healthy stew, which was a tasty success. It just goes to show that children WILL EAT VEGETABLES after all!

TURTLES

We have some new pets in Nursery. They are 2 turtles. They have no names yet and Nursery staff can’t wait for the new children to arrive so they can name them and help  find out all about them.
